As I stare out my apartment window watching the sun go down on the first clear sunny day since, oh I don't know, last June, I'm left thinking about the sunsets in the desert.
There is nothing that can compare. The end of the day in Saudi was always an event to remember. It was quiet, serene, the sickly sweet hint of hibiscus in the air blew around with the wind that whipped across the dessert 24/7.
Being that close to the equator the sunset didn't change much with the seasons. About six or six thirty every night the sky would glow and prayer call would echo across the hills. A bone chilling musical prayer that sounded five times a day. It's presence becomes missed though the years.
I've waited for the sun in this hemisphere to mock the desert sun, but it just won't. There's something different about the sun on the other side of the planet.
